A brief introduction to Prana 7 holistic-exercises

Colour is the universal quality of all existence and sound is the primary mechanism of all creation. Colour and sound belong to the large spectrum of electromagnetic energy with their own frequencies and wavelengths.

One can wear specific colour of clothing, eat food with certain colour and use different interior colours on walls and furniture to influence ones state of being through the bio-chemical system, positively or negatively.

Sound has the same quality to alter our mood or affect our general well-being. Musical tones are vibrations, as with colours, the music’s effect depends on how it is arranged and presented. Classic music in general can be said to have a positive effect on our system.

In the likeness of sound and colour, some physical exercise systems such as Qigong, Yoga and TaiChi, attracts what is known as environmental chi/prana or universal energy where we obtain unlimited vital energy. These exercises deal specifically with the integration of the inner body(subtle body) with the outer(gross body). As a result of these exercises, the brain(hypothalamus) produces endorphines and an neuro-transmitter called dopamine, which helps one to experience pleasant sensations and creative impulses in the brain.

Inspired by these exercises, Prana 7 integrates the visualization of the 7 Newtonian colours and singing of the 7 tones of the melodic-scale to influence the physical and the subtle body simultaneously.

The subtle body (also called the spiritual physiology) is an energy body that interpenetrates and interacts with the physical body. It is here that the 7 energy centres or chakras are found, located physically along the spine. The chakras distribute a basic energy known as prana or chi throughout the physical and subtle body. Their energy level affects our physical and mental health. Also according to ones state of health, their colour and energy level/frequency change.

Through use of colour visualization and sound, vibrational electro-magnetic energy is transmitted or attracted by corresponding chakras. Thus helping the body to restore and improve ones state of being.

Each chakra or energy point in dense body responds to a specific sound and vibration. There are several sounds which have similar effect on activating the chakras.(See also articles; Chakra mantras from the Indian tradition and Taoist healing sounds)

Through constant repetition of these sounds one can alter the state of mind and aid the healing energies to work through the subtle and the physical body.

The long suppressed emotions in the auric body, not only affects the emotional state of being and the physical body (i.e. as emotional crises and physical illness), but also, in turn our environment. We all must have experienced the vibrations, when entering a room where there has been a heated argument or energy draining effects of being near some persons.

Whether we are aware or not, we are constantly exchanging and processing colour and sound through our subtle body with our environment and universe in general. The combining and processing of 7 Newtonian colours and 7 melodic-scale tones is a natural part of our greater physiology.

People endowed with second sight i.e. clairvoyants and sound sensitives i.e. clairaudients can verify this process of colour and sound acting on our emotions.

Using the Do-Ti-Do melodic-scale tone order with the 7 Newtonian colours, light and sound energy is guided through the chakra system in natural order for clearing and balance.

The employment of colour and sound as a therapeutic tool was used in the ancient civilization of Egypt. Similar to use of 7 colours and 7 tones, rays of the sun were directed through large crystals. Spaces were designed and painted in different colours in temples and common baths for creating healing surroundings, according to ones ailments.

The Austrian scientist and the philosopher Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), in the early 1900’s experimented with the psychology of colour, which he used extensively in Steiner schools, to aid and stimulate certain emotions in children’s learning and creative faculties, according to their age and constitution.

In sound therapy, the French, Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and Researcher, Dr. Alfred Tomatis,(1920-2001), explored the broad applicability of music, especially the violin concertos and symphonies of Mozart, which contains high frequencies, primarily on children with dyslexia, speech disorders and autism. These discoveries led to the Tomatis Method, also called the ‘Auditory Training System’. This system is now used in over 250 Tomatis Centres worldwide.

The Colour and Sound Chart combination/exercises as outlined can be practised on their own without the need to learn the basic Prana7 postures.

WORKING WITH COLOUR AND SOUND

Ti

La

Sol

Fa

Mi

Re

Do

To learn the 7 colours and the 7 sounds; Make (buy) A4 or A5 size sheets of paper of the 7 Newtonian colours. Mark each with the corresponding musical tone i.e. Red – Do, Orange – Re ….. tape together from behind onto each other (which can be folded into one A4 or A5 size). They should ideally be hung on to a wall directly facing the exercise area or laid on the floor in front, so that one does not need to move the head or the eyes in any other direction.

To learn the colours and their sequence; start from red to violet and back to red again. Repeat. To learn the melodic scale start from Do to Ti and back to Do again. Repeat. Similar to practising solfege. (It is useful to hear the scale on a piano or guitar etc).

Sit comfortable in a chair with the spine straight and hands resting on the thighs. Or stand naturally with feet hip-width apart, hands and palms relaxed pointing towards the legs.

Look at the colour chart (marked with corresponding tones), sing each tone loud as you go through each colour starting from Do to Ti and backwards. Try to memorize each colour as you work through the chart.

After learning the movement process, take a slow deep breath, sing silently (repeat mentally) the 7 tones, while looking and visualizing the colours. Starting from Do to TI, then exhale back from Ti to Do. Repeat.

INHALE (7 counts):Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti
EXHALE (7 counts):Ti La Sol Fa Mi Re Do

To enhance the overall effect of colour and sound one can also visualize or imagine the physical body as an empty bottle or a bamboo flute, in which each colour (light) and tone fills the bottle (and empties itself). Or each colour and tone penetrates/spirals in and out of the flute.

Breathing should not be forced. It should be relaxed and natural. Not too slow and not too fast. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.

When colour visualization has become fairly strong one can exercise without looking at the colour sheets, the effect will not diminish.(similar to dermo-optic vision or eyeless sight.)

Colour and Sound exercise acts directly on the subtle body/aura-chakra system, as this will gradually release (heal) any supressed emotions (as energy), it is not advisable to exercise when one is going through extreme emotions of any kind, i.e. anger, hatred, worry, etc.

When training Prana7 exercises it is advisable to be in positive mood, sending good feelings to yourself.

DURATION: 3-5 minutes a day
